A change in standard

EN 12326, the European Standard which any roofing slate used within the European Union must now comply with, has replaced a number of national standards that were in force: the UK's BS 680 and France's P32, being examples. It's a change that has important implications for the roofing industry.
 

EN 12326

Although EN 12326 ensures that all roofing slates are tested in the same way, it makes no attempt to differentiate 'good' from 'bad' and cannot be recognised as a sign of quality in the way that BS 680 or P32 could be. Instead, EN 12326 merely provides the results of a standard set of tests and leaves users to assess this.
 

Good slate? Bad slate?

Although it would be helpful if the CE marking did act as a true mark of quality, determining the quality of the slate from the test data is relatively straightforward; especially if a few 'golden rules' are observed - please click here for further information.
 

SSQ - setting the standard

At SSQ we are passionate about roofing slate and committed to providing the best. All SSQ roofing slates have been tested to EN 12326 and carry the CE marking - that's a minimum - but in addition, all SSQ slates have been classified as 'A1-S1-T1' in the three key performance tests set by EN 12326.

We employ our own quality-control teams to check every batch of roofing slate and individual consignments are tested at random. And we can provide detailed independent test results and geological data that go far beyond the information required by EN 12326.
