In Kaunas, Lithuania, a city with a rich history and well known for its cultural creativity and architectural style, our Domiz natural slate has been adding a unique look to some new-build residential properties.
For two separate projects where the architect and project developer stressed the importance of durable, eye-catching façade design, SSQ partner in Lithuania, Akmens Klasika was able to provide our Domiz slate.
The first project was overseen by architect practice JSC UGNIUS ir ARCHITEKTAI. The slate was cut to 50x25cm dimensions, with approximately 500 squared metres being used as cladding to construct the stunning façade.
For the second project, the slate was cut to a slightly smaller dimension (40x20cm), with 600 squared metres of Domiz incorporated to create the beautiful finish that is further enhanced by reflecting light.
Domiz is hand carved from the Cabrera Mountains in North-west Spain, where it is then hand split especially for us. The distinctive slate has a grey finish with blue-grey overtones and deep bold texture and has achieved BS EN 12326 “W1-T1-S1” classification as well as complying with both the rigorous Belgium Standard STS 34.03.6 and the renowned Norm français (NF228).
The slate is extremely popular across continental Europe and as you can see from the images, it looks and works just as well on cladding facades as it does on roofs.
