SSQ is proud to have its played its part in the historic construction of the EPIC Hotel, the first five star resort in the province of San Luis, Argentina, a mere 100km from our La Repressa quarry.
Based in the picturesque town of Villa de Melo at the foothills of the Sierras Grande mountains, the building of the luxury hotel, was an ambitious project that has resulted in a $13m investment in the local economy.
Featuring 101 rooms, a presidential suite, 800 square metre spa and gym as well as two high-class restaurants, the hotel is expected is expected to boost tourism in the idyllic area.
After a local supplier struggled to supply the quantity of slate required, the Hotel turned to SSQ. Accumulatively, we provided nearly 500 tonnes of rustic walling slate, which would cover over three squared kilometres. The ”Murete” slate was cut thin and used to give an elegant and timeless finish to the hotel’s façade and the thicker cut ”Taco” slate was harnessed to construct exterior walls and create a unique backdrop in gardened areas of the hotel grounds.
