West Cross House is a six-bedroom Victorian family home in a prominent location in Penarth town centre, in the heart of Penarth Conservation Area. The new owners of the property commenced extensive renovation works in March 2018 aiming to retain its original XIX century character and appearance.

The property owner expressed interest in obtaining a reliable alternative to locally sourced natural slates. Throughout his research SSQ Del Carmen stood out as one of a very few materials that have been approved by Snowdonia National Park and accepted by other heritage agencies. With a history of successful installations on heritage sites and within conservations areas, there was little to no doubt that Del Carmen would pass planning permission.

While awaiting planning permission SSQ proposed a list of reliable roofing contractors to the owner, with M. Camilleri and Sons Roofing Ltd coming at the top of the list as one of the most skilled natural slaters who have the reputation of holding one of the highest standards of workmanship.

This project is a great example of a successful collaboration between a supplier, contractor and property owner where all parties worked together to ensure the local heritage is preserved. It is a big testament to the trust and recognition that Del Carmen brand has earned across Wales.

West Cross House is a finalist in the Domestic Property Application Using Slate category at the RCI Pitched Roofing Awards 2018.
