Selwood House is an imposing, five-bedroom detached house built around 1900 and subsequently extended in 1922. The original slate-covered mansard roof had fallen into disrepair: slates were damaged, loose or missing, some of the battens showed signs of rot and an entire pitch had been covered with bitumen in an effort to weatherproof it. Not surprisingly – but much to the dismay of the owners – two surveys condemned the roof…
Located in a conservation area, the local council had to approve the new covering and insisted on a like-for-like replacement. The roof was stripped back to the rafters, new felt and battens fitted and the roof covered with SSQ Ultra Riverstone® Grey roofing slates. Not surprisingly – but much to the delight of the owners – the new roof had the effect of totally rejuvenating the building’s appearance. Job done!
